LEARNING WITHOUT LIMITS

Fruitvale, Oakland, California, 2016

Having spent over two decades as a teaching artist, I believe that students deserve school buildings that reflect the warmth and enthusiasm that is emblematic of youth. I have designed collaborative art projects that enhance school sites by infusing walls with color, rhythm and pattern based on global art and textile traditions.

At Learning Without Limits in the Fruitvale district of Oakland, students spent nearly a month painting wooden shapes that were affixed to rectangular panels in vibrant geometric designs. The finished piece measures 249” x 25 3/4” and sits in the school lobby above the entryway leading to the playground. Doorways and windows in the lobby are outlined with playful, hand-painted tiles created by the children who love sharing their artwork with family members and school visitors.
